"Comedians and Angels” Tom Paxton

This is a CD with real charm and a certain novelty. I must admit that upon first listening I was not terribly impressed but persistence has paid off and I now rather like it. It is a CD of love songs and not in the traditional folk vein of just plain filthy. They are genuinely beautiful and clearly come from the heart. I suppose this is one of my few problems with this CD, the songs are at times a little too personal. Tom Paxton is so clearly in love with his family that I find songs like Reason to be have a certain cringe factor. However this could well be a certain degree of hierocracy on my part because one of my favourite songs is Jennifer and Kate which is about Tom’s two daughters. Overall this CD has a good variety of songs from plain mushy to thought provoking. A CD of happy songs is rather a rarity in the folk world and perhaps if nothing else it is worth getting this CD to cheer you up a bit. | ||
